Mile High Music Festival 2009 Wrap-Up: Gomez

Gomez has been on my radar since Monolith 1 in '07 when Ian Ball did a solo set. The full thing is certainly a lot more intense than just Ian, I can say that much. It's not like they are Black Metal and or anything, it's just a bit of a difference to go from solo Ian to full Gomez. They had this psych, pseudo indie college rock sort of sound, mixed in with a fun and quirky amount of electronics. There were small hints at possible roots in country rock, but, in America, what band doesn't show a lil country once in a while? There were times in the set when they reminded me a little bit of Beck, but every once in a while there would be hints at the alt. rock DMB kind of sound. Clever fellas making popular music. Or didn't you all ready know that? I couldn't get close enough to take good pics, so I imagine a few people out there may have heard the news.
