Mile High Music Festival 2009 Wrap-Up: Gregory Alan Isakov

The first band of Day 1 was Denver's Gregory Alan Isakov. I've seen him solo a few times, and that was always pretty pleasing, but this time he brought along a few friends, and with only a few added instruments, his set bloomed into a Sufjan-esq magical experience that all the early birds who were lucky enough to see it were completely mesmerized by. The whole performance was a little minimalist in nature, with slow, deliberate drumming and simple chord structures driving clever, relatively short and engaging songs. Gregory's signature soft and Colorado-Folky vocals mixed well with the accompanists, giving me a fresh and hopeful start to my day. Thank you Mr. Isakov.
