Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There Are Mountains
My Thoughts: Love (<)

Like a hardcore version of Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah!, Cymbals Eat Guitars' swimming melodies and Islands-esq song structure come together in this noisey, melting rock album which is as unassuming as it is awkwardly engaging. General rock solos slowly dissolve into atmospheric feedback. Common sounding vocals quickly become hectic, wild, and barely controlled. Drums redefining what driving drums means. Unrelenting but soothing basslines. Perplexing synthlines that one can't help be be moved by. the album is a spinning contradiction. I listen to it and can hear the odd things that throw me, but they merge and flow together in ways previously thought impossible.

It's a confusing record, with few hooks and possibly no chorus' at all, but you can't help but love and admire the genius behind these NY kids's piece. There are these hints at possible Neutral Milk Hotel references with horns blaring and fuzz bass that is undeniably awesome, and anything that gets that close to NMH without blatantly ripping them off is in my good book.

CEG happen to be playing Monolith Music Fest. What luck! only a few days away.
