I heard somewhere that Explosions in the Sky were breaking up, so I had to investigate. It's not true, their website just says this:
"Hi Everyone,
Well, our two years of near constant touring has come to an end. It is now time for us to sit quietly at home and try and write some new songs. We've been working in fits and starts and we're pretty excited about some of the music we're coming up with. There is really no telling when we may have a new album ready. It will probably be awhile. Aside from coming up with new stuff, we're looking forward to getting back to our normal lives here in Austin...walking dogs, taking naps, having babies, playing scrabble, painting bathrooms, fixing air conditioners, reading about the Civil War, etc.
Anyway, thanks to anyone who came to see us over the last couple of years. Hopefully we will see you all again.
Love,
Explosions "
So, yeah, no break up. I just hope they don't pull a Godspeed You! Black Emperor and go on indefinite hiatus. Speaking of break ups, Rage Against the Machine is still touring, and, as it turns out, they're coming to our little town of Denver, for none other than the Democratic National Convention. And they're playing it for free.
I have no idea why. The act is mind boggling. They're coupling with the Iraq Veterans Against the War, so I can only imagine that the whole thing is going to be very positive, which is very good, because the war is very bad. That's why I'm standing in line on one of the 3 days (August 24-26) with a valid form of ID so I can put my name into the "ticket lottery" to get to see them play. Does anyone else kind of see the irony of RATM fans essentially putting their names into a bucket and being "drafted" to see the show? Regardless, I plan at least attempting to get in.
A tragic thing happened, which is why the week has been filled with little other than silence from me. But a long and cheerful review of a certain show I went to last week will be up tomorrow, and that should (maybe) make things better.
